Territory

The territory of the Rocher-Perce MRC (Municipal Regional County) is located on the southern tip of the Gaspe Peninsula, in the Gaspésie/Magdalen Islands administrative region number 11. Its area covers 3 256,47 km2 and is bordered as follows :

  • At the North by the Côte-de-Gaspé MRC;
  • At the East and South by the Gulf of the St. Lawrence;
  • At the West by the Bonaventure MRC.

 

Demography

The Rocher-Percé MRC groups 5 municipalities counting a total population of 17 395. This MRC includes the following cities and municipalities : Percé (Saint-Georges-de-Malbaie, Pointe-Saint-Pierre, Belle-Anse, Barachois, Bridgeville, Coin-du-Banc, Canne-de-Roches, Perce, Val-d’Espoir, L’Anse-à-Beaufils, Cap-d’Espoir) (Pop. 3 147), Sainte-Thérèse-de-Gaspé (Pop. 1 056), Grande-Rivière (Pop. 3 354), Chandler (Pabos, Saint-François-de-Pabos, Chandler, Pabos-Mills, Newport) (Pop. 7 422) et Port-Daniel-Gascons (Pop. 2 416).

With regards to occupancy, the territory features a large resource-area wich is nearly unoccupied (61 % of the total MRC area is non-organized). Three quaters of the population es dispersed along the Gaspé coastline with a meandering 70 km-long portion of provincial highway 132.
